Caribe Service & Equipment Inc. completed a full airfield lighting vault-room modernization at Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) — the busiest airport in the Caribbean — replacing aging constant current regulators and installing a new control and monitoring system integrated to the control tower. It is one of several projects Caribe Service has delivered for Punta Cana, which remains an active client today.

The challenge. Punta Cana handles millions of passengers a year and operates around the clock, so its airfield lighting cannot go dark. The airport's existing regulators had reached the end of their service life, and operators needed centralized, real-time visibility of every lighting circuit — all delivered without disrupting live runway and taxiway operations.

What Caribe Service delivered. Working in the airport's regulator (vault) room, Caribe Service supplied and installed eleven Reliance Power constant current regulators (CCRs), new circuit selector switches, and a complete Airfield Lighting Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS) extended from the vault room to the control tower. The scope covered supply, installation, integration, commissioning, and testing of the full system built on ADB Safegate technology. Building on the success of this work, Caribe Service went on to modernize a second vault room at the airport to the same standard.

The outcome. Punta Cana now controls and monitors its runway, taxiway, and approach lighting from a single modern interface, with real-time fault detection and reporting from the tower. The upgrade replaced obsolete equipment with state-of-the-art, energy-efficient regulators and gave the airport a reliable, standards-compliant foundation for its continued growth — completed with zero disruption to 24-hour operations.

An ongoing partnership. Punta Cana International Airport remains an active Caribe Service client. Following the two vault-room upgrades, Caribe Service is currently delivering additional projects at the airport, including a new baggage handling system — part of a long-term relationship supporting Punta Cana's airside infrastructure.
